Back in 1988 Russell took to the wheels of steel for the first time and along with a group of friends he promoted and played at his first party "Moonstomp", favouring the underground sound of New Beat and the EBM coming out of Belgium, Holland and the UK.
In the early nineties Russell teamed up with promotion partner and friend Simon Patterson, to launch United Frequencies of Dance, for which he was resident DJ putting on a series of successful events across the capital and showcasing their favourite guests of the moment including Andrew Weatherall, David Holmes, Darren Emerson and Leftfield's Paul Daley, FatCat Record's Alex Knight, Mr.C and Fabio Paras.
Continuing to play a more underground sound, Russell went on to launch his Digital Gimp Society pseudonym, and guested at various venues including 333 in Old Street alongside Blackstrobe DJs, The Hacker, J Saul Kane and many more. He also promoted the Gimp events in various basements bars and clubs.
This year looks set to be a very exciting one as he is currently launching his 'sister' parties Música Noche and Música Luna, with a fantastic line up set to run through the 2014 summer season and beyond. Alongside Russell as resident, his guests include Cosmic legend Daniele Baldelli, Nancy Noise, Felix Dickinson, Phil Mison & The Idjut Boys with many more exciting acts soon to be announced. Influences from Prince to Nitzer Ebb, Balearic to techno make up his style, but an open minded love of all good quality music prevail in his DJ sets.
